Stop Asking. Start Doing.

Friends, family, and readers often ask me what made me decide to do what I do now. And to be honest, I wish I could give people a straightforward answer.

But I don’t have an explanation for how I found my calling, passion, meaning, or whatever you want to call it.

The closest I got was: Just try a lot of things, step outside of your comfort zone, and see what happens.

It’s an honest answer. I’m never afraid to say “I don’t know,” when people ask me a question. I think people often feel the urge to give an answer when someone asks them a question.

Stop Trying To Figure Out Life

Life is pretty awesome, isn’t it? But it’s also difficult to figure out life.

I often hear grownups say: “Do you remember how awesome it was to be a kid?” For most of us, that’s true. When we look back, we see how simple our life was.

  • You have to get a job.
  • You start thinking about settling down.
  • You get a car.
  • You get a mortgage to buy a house.
  • You have bills to pay. Maybe you have debt.
  • Maybe you get a dog.
  • How about marriage? Yup. Definitely.
  • And then kids.

  • “It can’t be done.”
  • “What? Do you want to build an airplane? You’re crazy.”
  • “You’ll never make it.”
  • “Everyone fails and so will you.”
  • “1,000 songs in your pocket? You must be kidding, right?”
  • “An electrical car with a range of 300 miles? What’s next? A time machine?”
  • “You want to be an artist? It’s safer to get a job.”
  • “Why would you travel the world?”

What does it take when everyone tells you that you’re wrong? Delusion. At least, a little of it.

What To Do When You Screw Up Badly

I’ve screwed up so many times in my life that I lost count. One of my favorite mistakes is when I became homeless for 5 days in London.

That is a good story now, but believe me, I was scared out of my mind at the time. I’d recently moved to London, I had no friends, no family — and yet I managed to get kicked out of my apartment, without having a new place to live.
