Sometimes, we make rash decisions. And sometimes those decisions turn out well. For example, when I was in high school, I didn’t think much about what degree to pursue in college.

When the application deadline was near I decided to pursue a business degree without looking at any other options. The outcome turned out well, but I didn’t have a decision-making process whatsoever.

Since then, I’ve learned a lot about making better decisions. And it has nothing to do with the outcome of a decision since that’s not something we control.

By focusing on the process, you ensure that you’re making the best possible decision you can make at that time with the information you have.

I recently updated my guide to decision making. It’s a summary of my best tips and articles.

Feel free to bookmark or save it. If you need to make big decisions, you can quickly refer to the guide.

Wealthy

When researcher Thomas Stanley tried to learn how people became wealthy, he found that many people who lived in expensive homes didn’t have much wealth. Instead, the actual millionaires didn’t look or live like millionaires.

This led him to write the famous book, The Millionaire Next Door. I always liked the idea of building wealth in an orderly and normal way.

It reminds me of philosophy. Whether it’s Eastern or Western, philosophers of all ages and locations believed in studying the art of living for your own benefit.

If your friends and acquaintances have no clue you’re enlightened, that’s fine. You study philosophy to live with peace of mind. Most of us build wealth for the same reason.

In my latest article, I share my 5 steps to also becoming a millionaire next door.

One interesting thing

It’s easy to forget things we learned. I experience that all the time with the books I read or things I learn.

To avoid forgetting what I learn, I journal and I make sure I repeat important lessons. Another good way to remember more of what we learned is by assigning meaning to it.

This is something I picked up from the book No Self, No Problem by Chris Niebauer, a neuropsychologist. He writes:

“Meaning allows us to hold information in short-term or long-term memory and thus is the foundation of cognition.”

The way I give meaning to information is by immediately thinking of how I can share it with someone.

It’s actually one of the ways I started blogging! I wanted to remember the things I learned, so I started publishing them online.
