Wise: Systems vs flexibility

Don’t set goals, create systems. Systems trump flexibility. This is a popular idea amongst people who share advice online.

The idea is that you’re more consistent if you rely on a set of daily actions/habits that you execute without much thought instead of working towards goals.

I like systems. But they also have a downside, which is the risk of becoming rigid.

And in today’s dynamic world, we should remain flexible.

When you’re too rigid, you won’t adapt. That’s why you’re better off if you create flexible systems in your life, career, and business.

I write about how in my latest article.

Wealthy: Emotional freedom

For the longest time, I thought that having financial independence was the answer to everything.

“I wish I had more money!” was my motto. Then, I acquired more money and I still had the same issue about life.

We assume that financial freedom also makes you emotionally free. That’s not true.

What is emotional freedom, really? To me, it’s living life on your terms. Making your own decisions and feeling good about them.

Not feeling guilty. Not succumbing to social pressure. Having a strong moral compass and always doing the right thing.

That’s something you can accomplish without being rich.

One interesting thing

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s book, Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story, came out in 2012. And I remember reading it, and my favorite idea from the book was this:

Don’t go where it’s crowded. Go where it’s empty. Even though it’s harder to get there, that’s where you belong and where there’s less competition.”

I still think about that to this day. I constantly make an effort to go where it’s least crowded. I apply it to every area of my life.
