Wise: Managing your mood

How is your day going?

If you’re having a bad day, you’re probably in a bad mood. And vice versa. Many people often blame external factors for their moods.

But our mood is up for us to manage. We can’t control other people’s actions or outside events. But we can control our reaction.

Here are two ways we can manage our mood:

  1. Keep an activity log to monitor your mood for the next two weeks. Find the usual triggers that cause your bad mood. Once you identify them, plan a strategy to minimize their impact on your life.
  2. Visualize good things, then move on. Set a goal for yourself to never be stuck in a bad mood for more than 10 minutes.

Life is too short to drown in your own misery. Get over yourself and enjoy this one life you have. And while you’re at it, try to be in a good mood as much as you can.

Wealthy: Happy lottery winners

Various studies have found that winning the lottery does buy happiness, and most lottery winners improve their lives with their windfall.

An interesting thing about these happy lottery winners: They continued working after their win.

Money simply gives you more freedom and options. That’s why happy lottery winners continue to do work they enjoy.

Another thing: Most of us will never win the lottery. But we will all experience having a windfall. Like receiving a large cash bonus from work. Or having a sudden influx of sales/high-paying clients.

What do you do when you get more money than usual? In my latest article, I talk about lessons we can learn from happy lottery winners.

One interesting thing

A reminder from my book, What It Takes to Be Free:

“Regardless of how bad life is at times, these moments always pass… Even the worst times are not here to stay… That’s also true for good times. Everything we do or experience is temporary… Nothing good or bad about that. It’s merely how life works.”
