Leadership is most effective when we demonstrate it. No one likes a person who only talks the talk. That’s why I’m not a fan of leadership books that try too hard to explain leadership with tips and hacks.

I prefer books that highlight what important leaders have done—not just what they said. To me, books that demonstrate leadership through examples are the best kind.

One book that gives great examples is Dare To Lead by Brené Brown. I especially like this quote:

“The courage to be vulnerable is not about winning or losing, it’s about the courage to show up when you can’t predict or control the outcome.”

If you’re looking for inspirational books that make you a better leader, I recommend reading these.

Wealthy

Compared to several years ago, when I had less money, I still have the same lifestyle. What I’ve learned is that it doesn’t take much money to live a good life.

Benjamin Graham, one of the most important investors, once told his apprentice that money doesn’t make much difference in how we live. Very often, our normal routine is already good. We just don’t appreciate it enough.

Graham’s apprentice was Warren Buffett. And Buffett took Graham’s words to heart: He always lived simply despite his massive wealth.

That’s one of the ways you can get richer.

One interesting thing

Sometimes, the best way to relieve stress is to exercise. I’ve been re-reading psychiatrist John Ratey’s book, Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain recently. And this quote really puts it well:

The mechanisms by which exercise changes how we think and feel are so much more effective than donuts, medicines, and wine. When you say you feel less stressed out after you go for a swim or even a fast walk, you are.

It’s a great reminder to keep exercising no matter how stressed or hectic your life is.
