The reason I’m always looking for ways to get more done in less time is that there are many other things in life I enjoy.

That way you can go out and do more things you enjoy. One of the habits that helped me to stay productive is exercising.

As psychiatrist John Ratey found, exercise is essential for reaching “high-performance levels in intellectually demanding jobs.”

But it’s hard to make time for exercise when you have a hectic schedule. So try doing these three things:

  • Say, “I’ll do just 5 minutes.” — When you don’t feel like exercising, just work out a little bit. A 5-min workout is better than doing nothing.
  • Do it every day — Back when I tried to exercise only thrice a week, I often found myself saying, “I’ll do it tomorrow.” There’s that internal debate going on. But when I did it every day, I stuck to my exercise routine because there was no internal struggle.
  • Get it out of the way early — You had a long day. You’re tired. And you just want to go home and watch tv. I get it. So workout first and get that out of the way.

When I applied those three things, I became more consistent with my exercise. And I started feeling better during the day. In my latest article, I share three other habits that help you to get more done.

Wealthy

As a child from an immigrant family, we didn’t have much growing up. My parents did their best to support my brother and me. I always wanted to contribute. It’s a natural urge that many people who grew up with very little share.

When I got out of college, I became very money-focused. My only goal was to get rich so I could have more freedom. To stop worrying about money all the time.

But here’s what I learned: You can also become emotionally free, which is even better than financial freedom.

When you focus on improving your mind and becoming resilient, nothing can hurt you. Money will be a bonus. But a lack of it will not cause unnecessary suffering.

One interesting thing

There has been a lot of panic in global markets.

I understand that. Because If you’re looking at the market from an up-close perspective (like following the news, or some internet forum, and so forth), it’s easy to feel panic.

But stock market bubbles and crashes are normal. They’ve been happening for years, and we’re still here. As mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot, author of The (Mis)Behavior of Markets, said:

“Bubbles and crashes are inherent to markets. They are the inevitable consequence of the human need to find patterns in the patternless.

People in finance keep themselves unnecessarily busy with finding patterns and making predictions.

Remember: It’s not important what the market does. It’s much more important to focus on what you do.
